NEWS
MANAGING EDITOR
Lead the daily editorial effort at FOX 5. Manage the Assignment Desk Team, including the generation, production and follow-up of news stories. Leads the team to maintain and expand sources and story contacts. Leads editorial meetings; manages the reporting team, including daily story production, futures planning and reporter reviews. Approves scripts and leads special projects as assigned. Leads LNS partnership and coordinates with partner stations. Compose and publish stories for the web using station CMS. Supervise station political coverage. Outstanding leadership skills are required. Must have the ability to prioritize and work under daily deadline pressure. Skill in writing conversational broadcast copy incorporating appropriate visual elements. Communicate and deal effectively/politely with the public in person and over the telephone. Have ability to solve problems and troubleshoot. Bachelor’s degree from a four year college or university preferred. Five years experience in a commercial news station. Three years of newsroom management experience preferred.
ROAD WARRIOR GDA FEATURE REPORTER
Researches, sets up and executes compelling live feature segments on Good Day Atlanta. Interviews subjects in the field and producers packaged news reports. Stays abreast of local events, trends and entertainment news. Maintains contact with news sources as well as cultivates new sources. Researches and develops stories and story ideas for future use. Assumes responsibility for final content and presentation of news stories on the air, both live and taped. Appears on camera live at remote locations. Appears at community events as assigned to represent station. Creates and maintains a strong social media presence i.e. Facebook and Twitter. Establishes and maintains a leadership role within the station. Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university preferred. Five years experience as a news reporter for a commercial television station. Must be a skilled live television performer who displays an outgoing, likeable, exuberant personality. Demonstrates skill in writing conversational broadcast copy incorporating appropriate visual elements. Must be able to make independent editorial decisions in the field and collaborate with photographers and technical staff assigned to work with him/her in the field. Organizational skills and proficiency in English grammar, spelling, and punctuation. Must communicate clearly and deal effectively/politely with the public in person and over the telephone. Must be able to travel at any time, and be able to prioritize and work under daily deadline pressure.
ENGINEERING/OPERATIONS
MAINTENANCE ENGINEER
Operates, maintains, and assists in the installation of television broadcasting and production equipment; operates Master Control on a recurring basis; operates and maintains automation systems, video server systems, video and audio switchers and routers, computers, Ethernet networks, transmitters, and other related broadcast equipment; performs operating shifts in iTX-based Master Control; orders repair parts and supplies; documents FCC related repairs; and influences decisions regarding the purchase of new equipment. Candidate must be proficient in Microsoft Office, Windows Server, iTX, Statmon, Digital Nirvana, and VidCAD. Candidate must also have the ability to operate a wide variety of video and audio equipment used in broadcasting; communicate effectively with coworkers; work efficiently and meet deadlines; and knowledge of FCC rules and regulations. Candidate must have a high school diploma (or GED) and two years of electrical technical training from a vocational/technical school. Prior experience in a commercial television station is preferred. Candidate must also have experience in computer and digital technology; experience with TCP/IP and UDP networks; and experience with high definition video systems.
