Investigative Team (I-Team): Students will assist in researching investigative stories, schedule and coordinate shoots, log videotaped interviews and participate in various aspects of television investigative reporting. I-Team interns are also required to independently produce a tape of their work.
Web Department: Student will assist in creating, editing and producing online content for myfoxatlanta.com. Intern will assist Web producers in all areas of gathering news content by posting wire reports, encoding video, editing pictures and writing news stories. Intern must have solid news judgment and writing skills. Some knowledge of Photoshop, HTML and AP style is important.
Sports: Students will be exposed to how the Sports Department covers stories, edits and airs sports for the 10 o’clock news. Interns will assist in all facets of production. Duties include but are not limited to checking wire reports, logging feeds and games, preparing initial scripts, working with editors to produce high-lights, and retrieving and achieving videotapes. This internship may include some field experience to cover sports events with a camera crew and Sportscaster. Interns must be self-starters, organized, and able to work evening and weekend hours.
Weather: Students will assist meteorologist/weather anchor with collection of weather data and computer forecasts. Interns will also post weather maps, correspond with WSI Corp or NWS for data, maps, forecasts and research historical weather facts.
Production: Students will learn the responsibilities and job requirements for Directors, Technical Directors, Chyron/ Audio Operators, Studio Technicians and Floor Directors. Students will also observe studio and control room crews during the mornings and evenings, observe Master Control and video tape rooms in operation, and assist in script preparation for newscasts. Additionally, interns serve as grips for various studio productions. NOTE: The duties of the Operations Dept. intern are primarily observation only. Interns are not permitted to operate equipment during live shows without supervision.
Sales: Students will provide administrative support to account executives and sales coordinators. Internship activities may include typing, faxing, filing, copying, etc. There will also be telephone interaction with clients and advertising agencies. There may be opportunities for the interns to spend time in the Traffic and Research departments, as well. Interns must have a desire to work in Sales and enjoy working in a fast-paced environment.
Promotions: Students will assist producers with on and off site shoots, locating and logging video as well as attend some daily news meetings and observe editing sessions with an experienced promotion producer. Interns may also gain experience writing and editing on-air promotions and will update department database, create video stock reels and perform basic administrative assistance duties. Interns will have the opportunity to interact and perhaps assist with projects involving the I-Team, FOX 5 Sports, FOX 5 News as well as the programming, sales, production and community affairs departments.
Human Resources: The student intern will receive practical application experience and exposure to fundamental human resource generalist functions including applicant tracking, applicant screening and interviewing, reference checking, and employee in-processing and out-processing. Administrative/clerical duties may include word processing, assisting with the handling of incoming and outgoing mail, maintaining job line, job postings, mailing lists, and various administrative/clerical assignments. Interns must be customer service oriented, highly confidential, and possess solid verbal, written, organizational, multi-tasking skills, and high level of attention to details.
Finance: The student intern will be exposed to several areas for the finance function (Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Credit & Collections, and Payroll). The student intern will provide assistance to the Credit Manager, Accounts Receivable Coordinator, Accounts Payable Coordinator, and Payroll Coordinator. He/She will assist with processing invoices for payment to vendors, contacting debtors with delinquent accounts, transcribing letters and memos, preparing invoices and direct deposit slips for distribution, gathering time sheets from all departments, updating the vacation report and filing. Intern must be detail oriented and possess appropriate technology skills (word processing, data processing), solid verbal, written, organizational and multi-tasking skills.
Commercial Operations: Work with the group that brings together information from Programming, Sales, Promotion, News and Public Service to create a Daily Program Log for master control. Students will provide administrative support to the Commercial Operations coordinators in preparation of the daily program schedule. Responsibilities will include but not be limited to data entry, faxing, filing, copying, cross-department communication, etc. There will be interaction with clients and advertising agencies inquiring as to the status of commercial materials. Also, there will be interaction with the sales account executives as it relates to their sales orders. The interns will be exposed to the ENCODA traffic system, must have a high-level attention to details, a quality eye for proof reading and must enjoy a fast-paced environment.
Qualified applicants must provide an official letter from an accredited college or university confirming that he/she will receive course credit if selected for our internship program. All internships require a minimum of 20 hours per week for eight weeks. Applicants must also submit an essay in 250 words or less answering the following questions:

2. What duties do you expect to perform in your internship? What do you expect to learn?
3. Why should you be selected in the FOX 5 Atlanta Internship Program?
