Lawmakers discuss government's role in education

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. (AP) - A group of Georgia lawmakers is planning a meeting to discuss the federal government's role in public education.

The House Study Committee on the Role of the Federal Government in Education will meet Monday morning at Georgia Gwinnett College in Lawrenceville.

The impact of Common Core state standards on Georgia's public schools are among the issues the committee is working to review. The meeting is also expected to feature several school superintendents and educators.

The committee is led by Republican Reps. Brooks Coleman of Gainesville and Carl Rogers of Gainesville. The committee also includes Republicans Rick Jasperse of Jasper, Buzz Brockway of Lawrenceville and Democrat Mike Glanton of Jonesboro.
