Police: Mother Left 2-Year-Old In Car While Intoxicated At Bar
Bristol, CT- Police say Kelsey James,22, allegedly left her 2-year-old toddler in the car while she went inside a bar.
According to reports, the young mom stumbled into the City Sports bar in Bristol. The bar gave her water to try to sober her up, but then, James ran into the parking lot. When she came back inside, she allegedly passed out. That's when the bar called police.
"Barely talking, barely walking, you could clearly tell she was intoxicated," said server Courtney Lausier. "The fact that she drove here. I don't even know how she drove here. It amazes me because her eyes were barely open."
Authorities say they found the mother drunk and passed out at the bar. She was taken to the hospital.
When James woke up Saturday morning, she started asking about the whereabouts of her child. That's when police located the 2-year-old asleep in her carseat in the parking lot of the bar.
"Apparently talking to her, she was very incoherent. She tried to break into a car that wasn't hers. At that point , we called police in fear for her safety,” said City's Sports bar General Manager Ron Philbrick.
The baby is being cared for at Bristol Hospital and will be turned over to the Department of Children and Families.
