HELEN, Ga. (AP) - Authorities in northeast Georgia say a man is facing criminal charges after his gun accidentally discharged and fatally wounded a Texas woman.

Helen police said in a statement that officers found a woman with a bullet wound to her side and a man across the street who also had a gunshot wound to his hand on Saturday night.

Police say the woman was pronounced dead on the scene and 53-year-old Glenn Patrick Lampien of Jasper, Georgia was hospitalized. Authorities say Jasper's gun accidentally discharged and the bullet went through his hand before wounding the woman.

Police say Lampien of Jasper has been charged with involuntary manslaughter. It's unclear if he has an attorney and a call to a number listed for him wasn't answered.

The woman's name hasn't been released.
