House fire claims 3 lives

Posted: Updated:

Officials say a lightning strike is the likely cause of a house fire that killed three people early Tuesday.

The fire happened at a home on Revere Road in southwest Atlanta. Viewer video captured before the danger was extinguished shows the fast, fierce flames. "It was too hot to get to them. I screamed their names," says Patricia Culpepper. But it was no use. Firefighters found three residents inside, unresponsive. Neighbors say an older couple and their adult daughter lived at the home for at least 18 years.

Authorities spent most of the morning searching for a possible fourth victim. Neighbors say a fourth person may have been in the home, or in military service.

The names of the victims have not been released, pending notification of family members.

Neighbors say lightning appears to have struck the home near a carport.
