Fairburn mother arrested for leaving child in car

Posted: Updated:
A Fairburn mother was arrested after leaving her 5-year-old child in a hot vehicle while she went grocery shopping on Wednesday.

The Tyrone Police Department arrested 28-year-old Semeatress Robinson after witnesses found the child alone in a vehicle in the parking lot of the Publix on Georgia Highway 74 just before 3:30 p.m. Wednesday. The vehicle wasn't running, but all of the windows were rolled down.

Police say the mother was in the store for about 20 minutes before the child was discovered. Robinson told police that the child was sleeping when she got to the store, so she decided to leave the child in the vehicle while she went in for a few items. Police noted that her shopping cart was full when they made contact with her.

The child complained of being hot, but was cleared by paramedics at the scene. Police say the temperature at the time of the incident was 89 degrees.

Robinson was booked into the Fayette County Jail on reckless conduct charges.
