Suspect arrested in double shooting

U.S. Marshals and DeKalb County deputies arrested a 33-year-old in connection to a double shooting.

Corey Antwan Blount was arrested on Wednesday for his involvement in a fatal shooting that occurred in May near 1720 Commerce Road in Athens.

Investigators said that Derrick Merritt and Jamaris Walter were shot while standing in a vacant parking lot after a night club closed.

Merritt died as a result of the shooting and Walter is recovering from his injuries.

According to reports, the victims were innocent bystanders and played no role in triggering the assault.

Blount faces criminal charges resulting from this incident to include felony murder, malice murder, two counts of aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Blount was also wanted in Fulton County on charges unrelated to this incident.
