Flags are flying at half staff this morning after news that an off-duty Lawrenceville police officer drowned last night in Lake Lanier.
Georgia Department of Natural Resources officials said divers recovered the man's body around 7 p.m. Thursday.
The officer was identified as 35-year-old Canon Callender.
DNR officials say the man was swimming the lake when he became distressed. He called for help and people on the shoreline called 911. He disappeared under the water around 5 p.m. and was located about an hour later.
