MACON, Ga. (AP) - A jury has acquitted three Macon State Prison employees of federal charges related to inmate beatings.

The Telegraph newspaper reports jurors acquitted deputy warden James Hinton, along with Corrections Emergency Response Team members Tyler Griffin and Derrick Wimbush. The verdict came around 8 p.m. Friday.

Federal authorities had said the three, along with three other guards, conspired to beat inmates to retaliate for assaults on guards in October and December 2010. Prosecutors said the group also conspired to cover up the beatings.

The Telegraph reports the other team members were acquitted on some counts but were also found guilty on some charges. The charges for which they were found guilty weren't immediately available.

Separately, five guards have pleaded guilty to federal charges stemming from alleged incidents at the prison.
