Snellville leaders propose solicitation ordinance

Posted: Updated:

The city of Snellville has proposed an ordinance aimed at stopping strangers from knocking on your door.

According to Snellville Councilwoman Diane Krause, the ordinance is being written and will eventually be considered for adoption to protect families from solicitors.

Council members discussed one plan that would require everyone to get a permit before going into a neighborhood and knocking on doors.

The initial proposal was designed to keep out scam artists, but council members soon realized it would affect a lot of people including children involved fundraisers, church groups and politicians.

Girl scouts say the Snellville proposal will make it harder to sell their cookies door to door.
