1 child killed, others injured in Fayetteville crash
FAYETTEVILLE, Ga. -
One child has died, three others were injured in a crash between a car and a pickup truck on Highway 314.
The accident happened around 10 a.m. Friday, police say a car turned out of the shopping center into the path of a pickup truck. Police say at least one of the children was not wearing a seat belt.
Late Friday, officials detail the accident scene: "On Friday, May 30, 2014 at 9:40 AM Fayetteville Police were dispatched to an accident at GA Hwy 314 and Pavilion Parkway. A Toyota Camry was attempting to turn left onto Beckett Lane and turned into the path of a south bound pick-up truck. There were 4 children, ages 8, 6, 4 and 3 in the back seat of the Camry along with the driver. All of the children were transported to hospitals, two by Life Flight. One of the children has died from their injuries, one is in extremely critical condition and two are in serious condition. The driver of the Camry was also transported and is still hospitalized. The driver of the pick-up truck was not injured. The accident is being investigated by the Fayetteville Police Department and the Georgia State Patrol. Any charges to be filed will be determined after the investigation is complete."
Fayetteville Police originally said two children in the car died but on Friday afternoon, they corrected to the information to say one child had died and another was in extremely critical condition.
A Fayetteville Police spokesman blamed the error on information provided by the Fayetteville Fire Department.
According to police, the driver of the Toyota Camry was not insured and should not have been on the road. The car hasn't had a valid tag since January of 2013.
