Reading Rainbow raises over $1.5 mil. on Kickstarter

LOS ANGELES - Reading Rainbow is attempting to make a comeback -- on the web.

According to Deadline.com, a Kickstarter campaign for revitalize the once-popular children's literary variety show was fully funded within 24 hours.

The show's Kickstarter page says they plan to "bring Reading Rainbow’s unlimited library of interactive books and video field trips to kids everywhere & help classrooms most in need."

The campaign seeks to provide the Reading Rainbow app to as many classrooms as possible free of charge. Contributors have the option of donates a little as $5 or as much as $10,000. Gifts range from bumper stickers to an actual one-on-one dinner with Levar Burton.

The Reading Rainbow app already contains hundreds of books but the teams wants to expand their collection to the web.

As of Thursday, the campaign had raised about $1.6 million and backers have 34 days left to give.
