One of four suspects accused of murder appeared in a DeKalb County courtroom on Tuesday.
Authorities took two teenager brothers into custody late Monday night in southwest Atlanta after a nearly 8 hour SWAT standoff and charged them with two murders in DeKalb County.
Officers from Atlanta and DeKalb as well as U.S. Marshals arrested 16-year-old Cutrez Johnson and 19-year-old Oslushla Smith at a motel at 2788 Forrest Hills Drive near Cleveland Avenue.
DeKalb County Public Safety Deputy C.O.O. Cedric Alexander told reporters at the scene the two have been charged with murder for shooting deaths on May 3rd and May 10th, and are possibly linked to a weekend home invasion that killed a 9-month-old and wounded three adults.
The standoff began at around 4 p.m. at the Travel Inn in southwest Atlanta.
Alexander said one of the suspects was injured when police came in the room the two were in. Medics took that suspect to an area hospital.
Police also took Johnson’s girlfriend into custody for questioning, as well as her 5-year-old son who appeared unharmed in the incident.
The boy told FOX 5 crews at the scene his name is Joshua and he’s in kindergarten.
The suspects were wanted in the May 3rd shooting death of a man at a party at a Stone Mountain apartment.
DeKalb Police say 17-year-old Alexis Malone who witnessed that shooting was killed this past weekend.
Johnson, Smith, and Malone’s girlfriend Kayla Dixon are all accused of the murder of Malone.
Police took Dixon into custody earlier Monday.
In retaliation for Malone’s death, investigators say men broke into a home Saturday night, killing 9-month-old Kendarius Edwards and shooting the baby’s mother, grandmother and another woman.
DeKalb Police told FOX 5 Monday they have good leads in the retaliation shooting.
