Athens teen being called "Miracle Boy" after semi-truck wreck

Posted: Updated:

He's been dubbed "The Miracle Boy".

An Athens teenager is hit by an eighteen-wheeler, at full speed and he lived to tell his story. Seventeen-year old Christopher Hein has truly beaten the odds. Not only is his family calling him a miracle, but his doctors are too.

Hein was driving to school early Friday morning on March 14, 2014. The sun was bright, and he didn't see the big rig as he made a left hand turn. The semi pushed his 2006 two-door Honda Civic 120 feet and then rolled ontop of the car. It was crushed underneath the semi.

His mother, Karen Cristopherson feared the worst. "That normally, would have killed someone on impact." she said. "I prayed. I fell to my knees and I prayed. And I screamed."

After an extensive extraction operation, Chris was finally removed from his crushed car and air lifted to Atlanta Medical Center. He was met by Dr. Stephanie Pannell. "He already had a breathing tube in, that was breathing for him, his blood pressure was low. He had an obvious leg fracture, his head had multiple bruises, and he was actively bleeding.

He was in critical condition," she said. Dr. Pannell and others didn't think Chris would survive. But he slowly started to show signs of improvement. "He actually opened his eyes and looked at me in my eyes and I thought this kid is going to pull through this," said Dr. Pannell.

After 7 weeks, he was transferred to Shepherd Center, where he undergoes hours of rehab a day. It just wasn't his time, says mom Karen.

Even local papers called him a "miracle boy". But when his head injury began to heal.

there was yet another sign...that he was, indeed, a miracle. A scar had formed in the shape of a capitol "M". Both Chris and his family say that "M" stands for "Miracle". "I want people to know that God is still in the miracle working business," said Karen.

Chris is tentatively scheduled to be released from Shepherd Center on May 28th. He is expected to make a full recovery.

Oh, that awful feeling when you think your credit or debit card is safely tucked into your wallet, but it's still shopping. Somebody, somewhere has got your card number and is using it. What if you could turn off that card?
