FedEx shooting victim recovering from third surgery

Posted: Updated:
KENNESAW, Ga. - UPDATE: Christopher Sparkman's wife released a statement on Thursday afternoon saying:

"We have been overwhelmed by the show of support from the community. My husband, Christopher Sparkman, is out of surgery and by the grace of God on the road to recovery. The recovery process will be a long one, but he will have the love and support of his family each step of the way.

I cannot express enough thanks for all the well wishes, prayers and care that Christopher has received. With that said, we ask for you to respect our privacy during this difficult time. We have no additional statements at this time."

The security guard who was shot during the FedEx shooting rampage on Tuesday will undergo his third surgery Thursday morning.

Chris Sparkman, an Army veteran and newlywed, was the first person shot when Geddy Kramer walked into a FedEx ground facility in Kennesaw and shot 6 people before turning the gun on himself.

Friends and family say Sparkman is a "great young man" and that he was minutes from finishing his shift at the time of the shooting. People gathered on Wednesday evening at Trinity Fellowship Church to pray for Sparkman before he undergoes this surgery at Kennestone Hospital.

Sparkman's loved ones are hoping his surgery yields positive results.
