ROME, Ga. (AP) - Rome police say distracted driving factored into a crash that killed a 7-year-old girl and left her mother and brother injured.

Accident investigator Danny Storey tells the Rome News-Tribune the 34-year-old woman who was driving at the time told authorities she reached down to retrieve something her daughter dropped while she was driving Saturday morning.

Authorities say the woman lost control of the vehicle and hit a utility pole. Police say M'Kenzey Olivia Floyd was pronounced dead at the Floyd Medical Center. Police say the girl's mother and her 3-year-old brother are in fair condition and the crash is under investigation.
