Local fire stations hit with string of robberies

Posted: Updated:
FULTON COUNTY, Ga. -

Several local fire stations are stepping up patrols after a recent rash of burglaries at a number of stations.

The brazen bandits wait for emergency calls and then they strike -- robbing and vandalizing firefighter's cars and belongings while they risk their lives to save the lives of others.

The thefts have been going on for months. Thieves have stolen money, personal items, stereos and even an entire truck. Officials say three stations have been hit.

Firefighters are so shaken up they've been parking their cars in the fire truck bays but they're afraid the bandits will go further and actually break into the firehouses, which serve as temporary residences for many firefighters at any given time.

The Fulton County Firefighters Union has decided to put up fencing around the parking lots but it may be a month or so before the fences are in place.

The Union hopes this measure will keep the bandits out for once and for all.
