1 shot, 1 injured in SW Atlanta family argument

ATLANTA, Ga. -

Atlanta Police are investigating a shooting in SW Atlanta.

According to authorities, the shooting happened around 11 a.m. on Tuesday night on the 1200 block of Westmont Road. 

Police say an uncle shot his 17-year-old niece in the abdomen and that someone retaliated by striking the uncle in the buttocks with some sort of weapon. Police say the source of the uncles wounds are unknown, at this time.

Officials they the shooting is the result of a prior altercation but the family would not reveal what the altercation was about.

Both the uncle and the niece were transported to Grady Memorial Hospital with "non-life threatening" wounds.

The uncle will be charged in this situation. Police are searching for the remaining suspects.

Authorities have not released the identities of the victims, at this time.
