Police searched for armed robber in Forsyth County

FORSYTH COUNTY, Ga. -

Law enforcement officers in Alpharetta and Forsyth County spent Saturday actively searching for a man they said robbed a convenience store.

A spokesperson for the Alpharetta Police Department told FOX 5 News that they believe Kennth Battle robbed a BP convenience store on Windward Parkway before fleeing into Forsyth County. This prompted a day-long search by air and on the ground with police K9 units. Forsyth County deputies went door-to-door of more than 400 homes.

"There is someone that was, that they were looking for that had an AK-47 and he was armed and dangerous," said Forsyth County Sheriff Duane Piper.

Residents woke up to helicopters overhead and deputies saturating neighborhoods starting around 3:30 a.m. Saturday. More than 60 officers and deputies searched four separate subdivisions in south Forsyth County.

Police say the 19-year-old Battle was with another man when they robbed the store at gunpoint and drove off. The clerk was able to get the tag number the Jeep in which they drove away.

"We went to the house where the tag was registered to. The address is up here in Forsyth County," said Sheriff Piper.

The sheriff said they found one of the 19-year-old suspects at the house along with two cash registers and a lock box, but Battle seemed to have slipped away.

"We had dogs, Alpharetta SWAT team, our SWAT team and K9 units on the ground. The helicopter was using infrared," said Sheriff Piper.

The active search for Battle ended about 14 hours after it began, but authorities said they will turn this over to detectives because they want to bring Battle to justice.
