Police wound 16-year-old in shootout

Posted: Updated:

Authorities in Rockdale and DeKalb County are continuing to investigate the incident - a robbery and carjacking, followed by a chase and a shootout.

One that ultimately led to the wounding of a 16-year-old.

Law enforcement officials said the search for others involved in the incident continues.

A Rockdale Sheriff's department spokesman told FOX 5 that the incident began after an armed robbery at a home off Salem Road in Rockdale County.

DeKalb school officials placed one high school on lockdown Friday as police searched for the suspect.

By 10 a.m. Rockdale County asked people to be on the lookout for a suspect - Deonte Douglas Huddleston.

But it wasn't Huddleston that police found at Grady.

Police said Huddleston is still a person of interest in the robbery and carjacking.

After the robbery, deputies put a be-on-the-lookout for a tan Lincoln Town Car they believed he was driving.

A short time later, deputies spotted the suspect's car on I-20, and began chasing it.

The chase ended in DeKalb County when the suspect drove into an apartment complex and ran from the vehicle.

The spokesman said the suspect ran into the Somerset Apartment complex, where he exchanged gunfire with police.

Police said that was when he was wounded.

A DeKalb County Police Department spokesperson told FOX 5 News that they are assisting Rockdale County deputies in the investigation.
