Obama Administration orders study of penny, nickel

Posted: Updated:
WASHINGTON, D.C. -

It costs more to make a penny than the penny is worth, likewise for the nickel, government reports say.

To that end, the Obama Administration has ordered a review of the nation's currency in 2015, particularly the use and production of coins, according to MarketWatch.

"Three separate studies are looking at alternative metals for production, U.S. mint facilities, and how consumers use currency." MarketWatch reports.

The report is not designed to end the circulation of the currency, but to review a system that has been unchanged for decades.
