Nearly a million Cobb County EMC customers could soon be seeing a check in the mail after the largest class action settlement in the county's history was awarded in court today.
Cobb County Superior Court Judge Stephen Schuster called it trench warfare at its worst.
The four-year-battle alleged Cobb EMC withheld millions of dollars from its customers.
Today Judge Schuster signed off on a settlement approaching $100 million.
As a result, business owners, churches and homeowners will soon be receiving a check.
Overall, $98 million was awarded to nearly a million current and former EMC customers.
Each payout ranges from hundreds of dollars to millions of dollars, depending on how long they were with Cobb EMC.
Catholic Church of St. Ann will get $23 thousand.
The lawsuit contended that the non-profit co-op never paid out profits it collected each year to its customers.
