Parks Middle principal to testify against Hall in CRCT cheating trial

Former Parks Middle School principal Christopher Waller pleaded guilty to his role in the Atlanta Public Schools CRCT cheating scandal on Friday afternoon.

Waller was hired by Dr. Beverly Hall at 31, he was the youngest principal in the school system -- and in an Atlanta courtroom, Waller pleaded guilty to a felony count of False Statements and Writings. Waller, along with 35 other educators were originally charged with False Statements and Writings, Theft by Taking and Violation of the Georgia RICO (Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations) Act.

During his hearing, Waller tearfully told the judge, "I tried to rationalize what I did. I am through rationalizing and making excuses and I'm no longer interested in blaming others. There are others who participated in this conduct with me, but they are not responsible for my criminal acts." 

Waller accepted a plea that reduced his racketeering charges to one felony count of False Statements and Writings with five years probation. Waller will join several others like former Human Resources official Millicent Few and others who will testify that Hall knew about cheating the cheating at Parks Middle because several cheating complaints were filed and an outside investigation was done.

According to a release from the Fulton County DA's office, Sandra Ward, a former testing coordinator working under Waller's leadership at Parks, also pleaded guilty today to a misdemeanor count of obstruction.

Waller was sentenced to five years on probation, ordered to perform 1,000 hours of community service and pay $50,000.00 in fines, court costs and restitution.
