School bus destroyed by fire in Chatham County

Posted: Updated:

GARDEN CITY, Ga. (AP) - A fire in a bus barn has destroyed a Savannah-Chatham County school bus and damaged two others.

Garden City Fire Chief James Crosby tells the Savannah Morning News police and firefighters arrived at the bus barn around 9 p.m. Sunday night. They found one bus engulfed in flames and the fire quickly spread to buses on either side.

Crosby said police found a suspect at the scene and used a stun gun to take him into the custody. Crosby said the man appeared to be homeless and was taken to a hospital to be checked. It wasn't immediately clear what charges he might face.

The bus that originally caught fire was a total loss, but firefighters were able to limit the damage to the other two.
