Ga woman gets 2 years in child's heat death

Posted: Updated:

WARNER ROBINS, Ga. (AP) - A Warner Robins woman is going to jail for two years after pleading guilty in the heat-related death of a child at a home day care.

Houston County prosecutors say Shelia Henderson pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter in the death of 3-year-old Andrew Leighlan Calloway in July 2011.

Authorities say Henderson was caring for the boy at an unlicensed home day care when he was left in the locked vehicle after a lunch outing.

The boy was in the car for about an hour in 95-degree heat. He died of heat stroke.

Henderson was initially indicted on charges including felony murder, but those counts were dismissed in a plea bargain.

Henderson is prohibited from operating any more day care facilities under her sentence.
