Tech Check: Fitbit Flex

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA -

We're now approaching six weeks into the New Year. How are those resolutions going? Need some help? How about some fitness gadgets that can help breathe some new life into your goals for a healthier New Year?

A simple wristband can help meet fitness goals. In the past, this segment has featured the Jawbone, but it has some competition now in the Fitbit Flex. The Flex lets you count the number of steps, the distance traveled; calories burned and even helps track sleep patterns.

Check out some other Fitbit devices here

All the data is sent via Bluetooth to a smart device and synchs it to a handy website that displays all it. It even sets goals of 10,000 steps a day, but you can adjust those. The website even allows the user to connect to friends who also have a Fitbit. There is nothing quite like friends cheering on daily progress and accomplishments to help get one into shape.

And all that data can be used to help your doctor. The device tracks sleep through a heart rate monitor. All that heart rate data could prove valuable to a doctor.

Fitbit also makes scales that can synch to a profile to provide ones weight and will help calculate a body mass index.

    Tech Check: Back to school

This time last year, we were still posing the question: Should you buy a laptop of a tablet for you school aged child? That debate appears to be over and the tablets have won.
