Lanier High students head to Verizon Innovation competition

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. -

A team of Lanier High students have banned together to solve local transportation issues -- using a mobile app.

The students entered the Verizon "Innovative App Challenge" and they've already won the state competition. So, now they're prepping for the regional competition.

According to the students, their app will allow users to inform city managers of transportation issues in their, respective, hometowns.

"They do this by tagging it and then the city can go through and view the tag. And then the tag will have a reputation score because as other people drive by, they can notice the problem too and increase the score. That way the city can prioritize," said Michael Jonathan, the team's leader.

Jonathan hand-picked the team for their varieties of expertise. And the while school is rooting for them.

The regional winner be chosen on February 9.
