ATLANTA -

Students across the metro Atlanta area were forced to spend Tuesday night at schools after treacherous conditions on roads made driving next-to-impossible.

FOX 5 has received numerous calls from frustrated parents whose children were stuck at school hours after dismissal.

On Wednesday morning, Atlanta Public Schools issued a statement saying, "Atlanta Public Schools can confirm that all of the 50 students who were previously reported as still being on buses have been transported safely. We have several hundred students who are sheltered in place at schools primarily in the north and west region of the city. There were a few challenges to food delivery at some locations, but all students did receive food thanks to the Atlanta Police Department, our resourceful staff, and the generosity of communities. Students are safe and continue to be supervised by staff and resource officers. The Georgia State Patrol is also on site."

Just after 9:00pm, an automated alert was sent to Fulton County parents: "As of 9:40 p.m. this evening, the Fulton County Board of Education has suspended all further bus pick-ups from school. Students who are here at Riverwood will be supervised by our teachers and administrators who remain on-site. If you are able to collect your child, you are welcome to do so at anytime throughout the night. The Riverwood phones will be actively manned all night long."

There were several reports of stranded buses in Gordon County. There were no reports of any serious injuries.

Numerous parents reported their children were still at school at 5:30 p.m. due to buses broken down or stuck in traffic.

Cherokee County Schools said they're providing shelter for students left without transportation, while Fulton County school officials are urging parents to have patience.
