GA 400/ I-85 overpass project to be finished by mid-2014

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA -

Bone-chilling cold temperatures and rain have halted a number of area road construction projects around the metro area.

One in particular, is the overpass that will connect GA 400 and I-85. As opposed to it's projected December 31 date of completion, the bridge will now be complete, as late as March. Drivers have been dealing with construction, in the area, for about two years.

The area around the overpass is a high-congestion area and the ramps will help to relieve the many motorists who live and work in the area. Drivers who frequently travel on Cheshire Bridge Road, the Buford-Spring Connector, Buford Highway, Sidney Marcus and Lenox Road will notice a difference when the new overpass is complete.

Georgia DOT says there's still a lot of work to be done but they expect to be finished with the remaining "high-speed" ramp and "flyover" ramp in the $40 million project by early 2014.

GDOT hopes the flyovers will help tourists or people just driving through Atlanta who oftentimes get confused by the route. The overpasses are being funded with money from the GA 400 toll.
