UGA fundraising shop stays open through holidays

Posted: Updated:

ATHENS, Ga. (AP) - Like most college campuses, the University of Georgia shutters most of its operations between from Christmas Day through New Year's Day.

All except the fundraising shop, that is.

The UGA Office of Development will open Monday and Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., just as it did Thursday and Friday.

It means fewer holidays for a handful of employees, but it also means more cash for the school and last-minute tax deductions for donors.

Gifts by cash or check will be credited in the 2013 tax year if it is postmarked or hand-delivered by the end of the year. Credit and debit card charges must be processed, either online or in person, by the close of business Dec. 31.
