TAMPA (FOX 13) -

In front of 2,200 of his classmates, junior Cameron Healy drills one of the most unforgettable shots in Bloomingdale High history.

"What was the best part about it?...When they were cheering my name," he said.

Cameron is autistic, but through his disability, he's developed an uncanny talent for hitting half-court shots. It's become his hobby. He was invited onto the court as part of the school's pep rally Friday. After a few attempts, he nailed it.

"When he made it and you heard the student body explode, it was overwhelming. There were kids crying, teachers crying, everybody was overwhelmed," said principal Sue Burkett.

"You see something like that, you're reminded how special he his, how special they all are," said Frances Hernandez, Cameron's mom.

Making it even more incredible was what that shot did for the entire student body, helping to raise awareness for the school's Special Olympic athletes.

"It really unified this campus in a way that I'm not sure anyone could've done other than Cameron," Burkett said.

"You can just tell people are bonding with him and that's a really special place," Hernandez said.

A special place where Cameron can grow and others can learn from him. Life lessons worth far more than three points.

"How that building was impacted by one event and one kid, and what he was able to do for 2,200 students is extremely powerful," the principal said.
