Ga. officer back on duty after use of force probe

Posted: Updated:

BRUNSWICK, Ga. (AP) - Brunswick police say an officer's use of force in pushing a 70-year-old woman to the ground during a DUI arrest was justified.

Police Chief Matt Doering released report on a Dec. 5 incident involving a St. Simons Island woman authorities say resisted arrest and became combative when ordered her to step out of her vehicle.

The Florida Times-Union reports that Doering said the woman locked herself inside her car and scratched the officer when he forced her door open.

The report says the woman dug her nails into the officer's wrist and tried to avoid being handcuffed. The officer eventually threw her to the ground and footage of the incident was uploaded to YouTube.

The woman suffered a bloody nose and facial lacerations, the officer is back on duty.
