ATLANTA (AP) - Emory University's is hosting an exhibition of works by Romare Bearden based on Homer's epic poem, "The Odyssey."

"Romare Bearden: A Black Odyssey" is on view at Emory's Michael C. Carlos Museum through March 9. The exhibition features a series of collages and watercolors based on "The Odyssey" that Bearden created in 1977.

The works were displayed for two months in New York City before they were scattered among private collections and public art museums. The new exhibition for the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service brings the entire series together.

The exhibition also includes other watercolors and works by Bearden, including a rare grouping of Bearden drawings from the mid-1940s that are based on Homer's other epic, "The Iliad."
