Prisoner escapes Clarke County work detail

CLARKE COUNTY, Ga. -

UPDATE 11AM: Police say they have found the inmate and he is back in custody.

Athens-Clarke County officials say a prisoner escaped a work detail early Wednesday. He was captured a short time later, officers say.

The suspect, who has not been named by police, was described as a "black male wearing gray denim jacket with 'ACC Inmate' on back, white pants with blue stripe." The suspect was captured just before 11:00am.

He reportedly escaped in the area of Newton Bridge Road and Paradise Boulevard.

The subject was being held for a robbery conviction, authorities add.
