Boy made honorary police officer in Covington

Posted: Updated:
COVINGTON, Ga. -

A 5-year-old boy's dream of being a law enforcement officer became reality on Monday.

Morgan Steward has a spinal condition that keeps him confined to a wheelchair. His mother, Tangi Forman, said that he's wanted to be a police officer as long as he would speak.

"He always said, ‘Mom, I want to be a police officer, I want to stop the bad guys,'" said Forman.

After learning about Morgan's passion for policing, Covington Police Chief Stacey Cotton made Morgan an honorary police officer.

In a ceremony on Monday, the kindergartener raised his right hand as the mayor administered the oath, which included a vow to obey his mother and be the best possible student. The oath was followed by several special presentations. Morgan got his own uniform and a key to the city.

"It's the highlight of my career. I've been doing police work for 27 years and to see a child fulfill his dream like that at such a young age, it's tremendous," Cotton said.

Morgan is already practicing his Miranda rights with dad and big sister. He'll lead the town's Christmas parade in a police car.
