Roswell home invader sought

Posted: Updated:
ROSWELL, Ga. -

Roswell police are still searching for a bold home invader who surprised a resident on Friday morning.

According to police, a man with a knife and possibly a handgun entered the house on Hembree Grove Overlook from the back. A brief struggle took place between the resident and the suspect. The suspect fled the scene on foot.

Police put Hembree Springs Elementary and Elkins Pointe Middle on lockdown for about an hour as a precaution as they searched for the suspect.

Detectives say the victim was not seriously injured in the struggle, but was transported to North Fulton Regional Hospital for a medical evaluation.

Police said the home invasion was a random act, and a rare occurrence in the community.

"Especially in this neighborhood," said Roswell Police Lt. James McGee. "We checked our records and the most recent one was last year. And it was a burglary, it wasn't necessarily a home invasion. No one was home. So, this is a rare occasion out here."

Roswell police describe the suspect as a black male with a bushy goatee and between 5'10" to 6-feet tall.

They say he wore a black hoodie and blue jeans and the victim said that he had a distinct body odor.
