Father charged with murder in death of son

PAULDING COUNTY, Ga. -

Authorities have charged a Paulding County man with murder in the beating death of his 12-year-old son.

Deputies say they found 12-year-old Eric Forbes beaten and unconscious inside a home Friday night. He was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

"They noticed multiple bruises, lacerations, scrapes -- injuries that would indicate some type of abuse has occurred," said Cpl. Ashley Henson of the Paulding Count Sheriff's Office.

The boy's father, 32-year-old Shayaa Forbes, was arrested and charged with cruelty to children. Authorities added a murder charge and another child cruelty charged against Forbes on Wednesday.

Henson said details on the cause of death will be released at a later time.

"Autopsy results are taking a bit of time because there are so many extensive injuries, they are having to document everything," Henson.

Eric's mother, Ashley Majors, who didn't have custody of her son or her 10-year-old daughter, claims that she was also a victim Forbes' rage, but never called police because she says she was too afraid. She now believes that her son was paralyzed by that same fear.

"I know somebody had to know. My baby's body was bruised , lacerations -- how could you not see that," Majors said. "I didn't think he would do this to his own child, flesh and blood."

Majors said she is now fighting for custody of her daughter.
