Jury finds Andrea Sneiderman guilty on 9 counts

Posted: Updated:
DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. -

A DeKalb County found Andrea Sneiderman guilty on nine of 13 counts, including perjury and making false statements.

Sneiderman was accused of making false statements, hindering an investigation and perjury related to the investigation of the 2010 murder of her husband, Rusty, and the trial of the man convicted in the shooting. Rusty Sneiderman was shot outside of a Dunwoody daycare. Andrea's former boss, Hemy Neuman, is serving a life sentence in the murder.

About 1:30 p.m., the verdict was read aloud with Ms. Sneiderman being found guilty on most counts. There was no strong outward show of emotion as the counts and the jury's findings were read.

Count 1: Hindering the apprehension of a criminal – Guilty
Count 2: Concealment of material facts –
Guilty
Count 3: False Statement – Guilty
Count 4: Perjury – Not Guilty
Count 5: False Statement – Not Guilty
Count 6: Perjury – Guilty
Count 7: Perjury – Not Guilty
Count 8: False Statement – Guilty
Count 9: Perjury – Guilty
Count 10: False Statement – Guilty
Count 11: Perjury – Guilty
Count 12: Perjury – Guilty
Count 13: Perjury: Not Guilty

The mixed verdict seemed to indicate that the jury believed Andrea Sneiderman had a relationship with Neuman, but had no prior knowledge of her former's boss' plan to kill Rusty Sneiderman.

One juror, who asked not to be identified, said that he believed Andrea lied numerous times after her husband's death to cover up for Neuman.

"After you look at the evidence, the emails, what was going on, what was said, the witnesses that came, you would probably say the same thing," Juror 57 said.

Rusty's family and friends embraced one another and thanked prosecutors, but had no comment to the media.

A close friend of Andrea Sneiderman, Steffi Miller, said that she believes the widow was convicted without real evidence.

"Everything that they suggested was hearsay or circumstantial," Miller said.

Juror 57 said that Sneiderman's testimony in the Neumann trial, which was replayed in this trial, doomed her.

"Once you got to actually looking at the information and what she said in the Hemy Neuman trial, she basically pretty much committed perjury," the juror said.

Miller suggested that the verdict from the predominantly African-American jury may have been a reaction to the George Zimmerman trial. Zimmerman was acquitted by a Florida jury in the death of Trayvon Martin.

"I don't think that all of it is racial. I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that they have been damning her in the news for two years," Miller said.

Deputies escorted Andrea Sneiderman out of the courtroom.

Sentencing is set for Tuesday morning. Judge Gregory Adams will hear arguments from both sides before issuing the sentence.

Veteran defense attorney Jackie Patterson said that he expects the judge to sentence Andrea Sneiderman to serve at least 10 years. Patterson said that's much more than she would have gotten had she accepted a plea deal.
