Metro Atlanta man killed in interstate crash

Posted: Updated:

SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) - Police in coastal Georgia say a metro Atlanta man has died in a crash on Interstate 16.

Savannah Chatham Metropolitan Police spokesman Julian Miller says 30-year-old Ronald Lawrence of Stockbridge died when the cargo truck he was riding in hit a tree on Saturday. Authorities say Lawrence was riding as a passenger and a 33-year-old Clarkston man was driving the truck.

Officials say the truck swerved into the right shoulder of the highway, hit a sign and ran into a wooded area. Police say the truck's contents spilled out of its ruptured cargo container after the impact.

Miller says the driver of the truck was not seriously injured, but was taken to the Memorial University Medical Center for observation.

Police say the crash is under investigation.
