Cynné Simpson is joining FOX 5 as the station's weekday evening anchor. Simpson will co-anchor FOX 5 News at 5 p.m. and FOX 5 News at 10 p.m. beginning August 12.
"We're very happy to welcome Cynné back to Georgia," said Mike McClain, WAGA Vice President and News Director. "We think she'll be a great addition to our strong team of journalists here at FOX 5 Atlanta."
Before joining the FOX 5 team, Simpson anchored the weekday morning and noon news for WJLA-TV in Washington D.C. Before that, she served as 6 p.m. anchor for WGCL in Atlanta.
Prior to that, Simpson held general assignment reporter positions with KCTV-TV in Kansas City, MO and WNDU-TV in South Bend, IN. Simpson began her career as a Lionel Chapman Fellow for ABC News' "Nightline."
"It's great to return to Atlanta and I look forward to joining Russ, Tom, and Lisa behind the evening anchor desk," Simpson added.
A graduate of Howard University, Simpson holds a Bachelor's Degree in Broadcast Journalism with a minor in Spanish.
Effective Monday, August 12, the new FOX 5 lineup will be as follows:
• Lisa Rayam anchors FOX 5 News at Noon
• Cynné Simpson and Tom Haynes co-anchor FOX 5 News at 5 p.m.
• Lisa Rayam and Russ Spencer co-anchor FOX 5 News at 6 p.m.
• Cynné Simpson and Russ Spencer co-anchor FOX 5 News at 10 p.m.
• Tom Haynes anchors FOX 5 News Edge at 11 p.m.
