Veterans park vandalized in northeast Ga. town

Posted: Updated:

LULA, Ga. (AP) - Authorities say someone vandalized Veterans Park, which features the names of 300 veterans etched in bricks, in the small northeast Georgia town of Lula.

The Hall County Sheriff's Office is investigating the vandalism, which was discovered early Thursday. Lula City Councilwoman Vicky Chambers tells The Times of Gainesville (http://bit.ly/14bq1L6) that city workers arriving to clean the area around 8 a.m. found that the monument had been defaced with black spray paint.

It's is the first time the park has been vandalized since its dedication in July 2009.

Chambers said the Lula Historical Society is offering a $500 award for any information that leads to an arrest.
