Surveillance photos released in Decatur robbery

Posted: Updated:
DECATUR, Ga. -

Decatur police hope new surveillance pictures will help solve one recent robbery and perhaps others.

Investigators are scrambling to solve a string of crimes in the area this month.

Police say the two men seen in the photos are suspects in a July 6 robbery on New Street in Decatur.

According to investigators, the two drove away in a stolen Mercedes after confronting a woman while she worked in a building, stealing her purse and a laptop computer.

Police believe the two men and a third suspect are tied to other robberies in DeKalb County.

"We are working with DeKalb County detectives because we feel two of the suspects involved in their cases are the same suspects involved in our case on July 6," said Decatur Police Sgt. Jennifer Ross.

It's part of a spike in crime that has rattled an area where residents value a community spirit.

Meghan Castro is a property manager on New Street, where the July incident took place.

"Nobody is getting too excited about it because we have a long history of a safe and calm environment and happy environment to work in," Castro said.

Police say they have added overtime shifts and redeployed officers to address the upswing in crime.

"If you see something, say something. If you had an incident similar to what is being described regarding these photographs, please call the Decatur Police Department or call CrimeStoppers," Ross said.

Most of the crimes in Decatur have involved burglaries, but police recently investigated more violent incidents and officers apprehended a 15-year-old suspect in a carjacking.
