Teen shot selling candy in Henry County

CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. -

Police say a 14-year-old girl was shot while selling candy in a Henry County neighborhood on Monday.

Authorities said that a white sedan approached the teen around Clemons and Spivey Roads just after 2 p.m. and shot her in the stomach. It's not confirmed if the teen was the intended target.

The girl was transported to the hospital, where she was in fair condition on Tuesday.

The victim's 18-year-old brother told police that he carried his sister to their Henry County home, which is about a mile away from Clemmons and Spivey roads. He says he then sent a text to his mother. She came home and then called 911.

Clayton County authorities, who originally handled the case, went door to door and searched through the woods and bushes near the scene of the shooting on Tuesday.

Police said they have not discovered a blood trail, and they're still trying to verify the teen's claims that they were selling candy in the neighborhood when the girl was shot.

After Tuesday's search, investigators said that they determined the shooting occurred in Henry County. The investigation was turned over to the Henry County Police Department.
