CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. -

Former NBA star and Atlanta Hawks player Daron Oshay "Mookie" Blaylock is in critical but guarded condition and a woman is dead after an accident in Clayton County on Friday, police said.

Blaylock and two other people were transported to Atlanta Medical Center after the accident, which took place on Tara Boulevard in Jonesboro between 12:30 p.m. and 1 p.m., according to Jonesboro police.

Authorities say that Blaylock was driving northbound on Tara Boulevard in an SUV when he crossed the median and struck an oncoming van.

A female passenger in the van, Monica Murphy of Gwinnett County, was transported to the hospital, where she later died of her injuries.

Murphy's husband, 43-year-old Frankie Murphy, was treated and released, according to officials.

Blaylock was initially placed on life support, officials said. As of 8:30 p.m., he had been taken off of life support and was listed in critical condition.

Blaylock has been treated for seizures in the past, according to investigators. Jonesboro police said that they are looking into that possibility.

Authorities do not believe that alcohol was a factor in the crash.

According to the NBA's website, Blaylock, 46, played in the NBA for 13 seasons for three different teams, including the Hawks from 1992-1999. He retired in 2002.
