A baby was born in a cab outside an Atlanta hotel on Thursday morning, according to a photo tweeted by an advisor to Mayor Kasim Reed.

Mike Sterling, senior advisor to Mayor Reed, tweeted the photo, saying, "Baby wanted to meet Mayor @KasimReed and couldn't wait. Grady EMS delivers baby in cab outside of Hilton. #amazing"

Atlanta Checker Cab driver Suleiman Hassan, who was behind the wheel at the time, told All News 106.7's Trey Thomas that he knew the woman was pregnant and he was trying to get her to Grady Memorial Hospital.  He said she didn't speak English well but did manage to tell him that the baby was pushing and her water had already broken.

The cab driver says he pulled over, called 911 and waited for paramedics to arrive.

Atlanta Fire Rescue paramedics David Goodrich and Harold Pritchett answered the call and quickly jumped into action.

"She was crowning so we made the decision to deliver on scene," said Goodrich.

Goodrich said it was his seventh live birth, but he said it never gets old.

"One of the best shifts I've had in a long time and I hope it continues. It's a blessing," Goodrich said.

It was Pritchett's first delivery. He's only been a paramedic for seven months, but says he will never forget the experience.

"I mean it feels awesome. We see much through our days. We see bad calls, but then a call like this just makes you feel good about yourself. Makes you feel good about everything," said Pritchett.

Paramedics say the Checker Cab driver really helped, by pulling over as quickly as he could and calling 911. They say the baby might have arrived without their help if he hadn't acted so fast.
