Augusta officials to police Masters ticket brokers

Posted: Updated:

AUGUSTA, Ga. (AP) - Augusta officials say they'll be looking out for illegal scalpers and checking for required ticket broker licenses during the Masters golf tournament next week.

The Augusta Chronicle reports Larry Harris, the city's licensing manager, says he and other inspectors will be on the streets surrounding Augusta National Golf Club starting Monday to check the licenses of ticket brokers.

Fewer than 20 companies or individuals hold active ticket broker licenses required by the Georgia Athletic and Entertainment Commission. Those licenses cost $500 per year. In addition, brokers who plan to re-sell Masters badges in Augusta must have a temporary business license with the city. Harris says only five had been issued Friday.

Ticket brokers caught without a license can face misdemeanor charges punishable by jail time and fines.
