Drivers beware: big events expected to impact weekend traffic

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA -

It's going to be a busy weekend in Atlanta. Atlanta police are urging people to pack their patience and take MARTA, as crowds are expected to be in excess of 100,000 people a day.

There are numerous sporting events in the area, including the Final Four at the Georgia Dome, the Atlanta Braves in a series at Turner Field with the Chicago Cubs and Hawks game on Friday night.

APD Deputy Chief Renee Propes says the department has been preparing the five-day Final Four event for more than a year.

In addition to all the sporting events, there will also be free concerts at Centennial Olympic Park including the Zac Brown Band, Ludacris, Sting and the Dave Matthews Band and fireworks on Sunday night!

APD officers will be working 12-hour shifts starting Thursday through Tuesday.
