Atlanta transit system launches anti-crime app

Posted: Updated:

ATLANTA (AP) - Atlanta's public transit system has a new crime-fighting tool - a mobile app that makes it easier for commuters to report trouble at train and bus terminals.

In a statement sent by the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority on Friday, they state that they have rolled out an app for iPhone and Android users that lets them connect with MARTA police and customer service.

Sgt. Astin Greene of MARTA police says he hopes the app will encourage more people to report crimes, vandalism and suspicious activity.

The app sends a message to MARTA's communication unit, which can forward it to officers in the field. It even enables users to send a photo of whatever people or activity they're reporting - and automatically turns off the phone's flash to help conceal the person making a report.
