Ga. musician asks thieves to return beloved guitar

Posted: Updated:

SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) - A Savannah musician whose favorite guitar got stolen is hoping for a little honor among thieves.

Guitarist Ted Bowne has posted a sign in his front yard addressed to "Dear neighborhood thieves." It reads: "The things you stole are very meaningful to me. Please return them. I will forgive you."

The Savannah Morning News reports Bowne and his band Passafire had just returned from touring in California last week when someone broke into their equipment trailer and stole $8,000 worth of instruments and gear. Among the losses was Bowne's beloved Gibson guitar.

Bowne says even if the thieves don't return his guitar, he hopes they'll see the sign and feel a pang of guilt knowing that "it wasn't just stuff - it's like a piece of me is gone."
